​Artist Statement

Urban graffiti lettering represents a break with a two- and a half thousand year old tradition of letter construction. The brush- and pen-based forms that are the basis of nearly all letter forms around us have been reinvented from a new direction, often incorporating a representation of 3 dimensions. My work explores the relationship of these recent non-traditional letterforms through the medium intimately related to our traditional letter forms’ earliest days, ie incised in stone.
