JANET SCOTT

Artist biography

Janet wrote and illustrated stories and enjoyed drawing and painting as a child. Aged 40, she caught mumps from a nephew and started drawing her nephews & nieces, then began life drawing classes at Heatherlys College of Art and landscape-painting weekends and painting holidays away with friends.

Since 1980 she has painted for a month each summer at Cyprus College of Art, Lemba, Paphos. Since 1986 she has also painted annually with friends in France, and recently painted also in Cuba. She paints in oil, mainly harvests, village, landscapes & seascapes, rivers & boats, flowers & trees.

In May 2000, following retirement from fulltime social work, she benefited from a month at Fondacion Valparaiso, Mojacar, Almeria, with other artists. She studied printmaking and continues lifedrawing classes at Morley College.

She exhibits with Not The Royal Academy, National Maritime Museum Art Club, Free Painters & Sculptors, Friends of Holland Park and small group shows.

Janet seeks to interpret light, heat, spirit of place, and prefers working directly from the landscape. Her paintings are in private collections worldwide.
